Learning Yoga at The Iyengar Yoga Studio

Yoga classes at the Iyengar Yoga Studio

At the Iyengar Yoga Studio, students are gradually introduced to a system of postures (asanas) including standing, sitting and inverted poses, backbends, forward bends and twists. More experienced students can also learn elements of breath control (pranayama).

Props of various kinds may be used to help some students learn poses and/or stay in them for longer so as to reap the full effects.

Why learn yoga?

The practice of yoga increases flexibility, strength, vitality, concentration and calm. It is suitable for people of all ages and all levels of fitness.

Coming to class

Clean, comfortable clothes that allow a full range of movement are all you need to wear for yoga classes. T-shirts and leggings or shorts are ideal. Avoid wearing strong perfumes.

Changing space at the Studio is limited and we suggest therefore that as far as possible you arrive ready for class. Hooks are provided for coats and other outer garments.

The StudioYoga is practiced in bare feet, shoes and socks are left in the changing area.

Handbags and similar items can be taken into the main practice room but nothing else. Mobile phones should be switched off. Students are responsible for the safekeeping of any items they bring to class.
